Beginner Sewists Funky Pillowcase

This fun Miss Mouse Sewing class is for young learners ages 9 and up who would like to learn basic sewing machine skills. During this 2 ½ hour course students will learn to thread a sewing machine, wind a bobbin, straight stitch, back stitch and more. Additional lessons include pinning and cutting fabric, seam allowances and fundamental sewing techniques. In the process we will make a pillowcase out of 3 coordinating fabrics with French seams along with the “burrito method” for hiding all raw edges. A very bespoke product will be worth all your efforts!

Students can bring their one favorite fabric and supplies or, purchase an optional supply kit from the instructor.

Supplies to bring: Fabric, cotton woven, 3 pieces- 7/8 yd, 1/3 yd & 1/8yd., spool of thread, fabric scissors and pins.

About the instructor:

Michele Scharf holds a B.S. in Fashion Design from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. She was a clothing designer, pattern maker and store owner throughout the 80’s. The past 10 years she has taught learners of all ages to sew under the Miss Mouse Sewing business. Four years ago she lived in Florence, Italy for the summer and studied luxury bag making. She is an upholsterer, quilter and leather bag maker. Anything to do with textiles she has been practicing, teaching and learning since the age of 10. Because she learned to sew as a child, it has been her passion to teach young people
