Executive Director

The Sierra Curtis Neighborhood Association (SCNA) is seeking an experienced, hands-on Executive Director to lead the organization’s daily operations and help steward the Sierra 2 Center for the Arts and Community.

Reporting to the SCNA Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as SCNA’s senior staff leader and day-to-day operational executive. This role provides leadership across operations, facilities, rentals, staff, finances, community relationships, and Board-approved plans and priorities.

About SCNA

The Sierra Curtis Neighborhood Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Sacramento’s Curtis Park neighborhood and the surrounding community.

SCNA operates the Sierra 2 Center for the Arts and Community, which provides space for cultural, educational, recreational, civic, and neighborhood activities.

Executive Director

The Opportunity

The Executive Director is responsible for the effective operation of SCNA and the Sierra 2 Center. The position works closely with staff, Board members, tenants, renters, vendors, community partners, City representatives, members, and neighbors.

The right candidate will be an organized and thoughtful leader who can balance day-to-day operations with long-term planning, financial responsibility, staff support, and community service.

Key Responsibilities

Sierra 2 Center Operations, Facilities, Rentals, and Business Performance – 60%

  • Direct the daily operations of the Sierra 2 Center.

  • Help maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-prepared facility.

  • Oversee facility maintenance, safety, capital planning, and operational readiness.

  • Manage rental operations, tenant and renter relationships, leases, contracts, permits, and insurance requirements.

  • Support compliance with SCNA’s City lease and other organizational obligations.

  • Build productive relationships with tenants, renters, vendors, partners, and City representatives.

  • Manage budgets, cash flow, internal controls, rental performance, and other business operations.

  • Improve technology, administrative systems, and organizational workflows.

  • Oversee Senior Center operations and programs.

People Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness – 20%

  • Supervise, support, and develop staff.

  • Establish clear roles, schedules, expectations, and accountability.

  • Promote a respectful, collaborative, and service-focused workplace.

  • Support cross-training and dependable operational coverage.

  • Oversee personnel records, payroll and benefits coordination, leave administration, and employment compliance.

  • Make staffing recommendations based on organizational needs and available resources.

  • Support fundraising, grants, membership, sponsorships, partnerships, donor relationships, and other revenue strategies.

Board Partnership and Organizational Administration – 20%

  • Provide the Board with timely, accurate, and decision-ready information.

  • Support Board and committee meetings.

  • Carry out Board-approved plans, policies, budgets, and actions.

  • Maintain official organizational records.

  • Support communication with members, neighbors, and community stakeholders.

  • Promptly bring significant legal, financial, safety, operational, or policy concerns to the Board.

  • Strong relationships with community members, partners, tenants, renters, vendors, and public agencies

Qualifications

SCNA will consider a combination of education and relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree, although it is not required
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in operations or a related field
  • At least three years of management experience
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Sierra 2 Center, Curtis Park, and the greater Sacramento community
  • Experience with facilities, rentals, tenants, events, maintenance, safety, vendors, and customer service
  • Experience with budgeting, financial review, internal controls, and systems improvement
  • Experience working with nonprofit Boards, committees, volunteers, donors, community stakeholders, or public-sector partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgment, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong service, negotiation, presentation, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Comfort using business technology and administrative systems

Work Environment and Schedule

This is a full-time, exempt position that is primarily based on-site at the Sierra 2 Center.

The position requires regular availability during business hours, along with some evening and weekend availability. The work includes frequent interaction with the public and community stakeholders, movement throughout the facility, facility inspections, and occasional lifting.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, salaried exempt position. SCNA offers a comprehensive compensation package that includes health and other benefits, as well as a retirement program.

The base salary range for this position is $72,500-$85,000 annually, with final compensation determined based on the selected candidate’s experience, qualifications, and skills.
