Gunther’s Ice Cream
Gunther’s Quality Ice Cream Company was established in April 1940, owned and operated by Herman “Pop” Gunther and his wife, Iva. The present owner of Gunther’s Ice Cream, Rick Klopp, was employed in 1969 at the age of 22 by Carl Buchell (the owner in 1967 after Pop passed away). Rick bought the business in 1974.
Rick and his wife Marlena continue to manufacture the product on the premise and maintain the quality based on the original recipes left by the Gunther family. Gunther’s Ice Cream now sells ice cream to over 60 locations, in and adjacent to the Sacramento Area. QUALITY is still the foremost concern. With the change of times you can still find good old fashion ice cream at a good old fashion business.

Espresso Metro
Espresso Metro opened on June 7, 1988. Neighbors warned that “No business makes it in this building!” But Espresso Metro, with its close proximity to Sacramento City College, proved them wrong. The cafe quickly became a popular gathering spot for students and neighbors to enjoy expertly crafted espresso drinks and a wide variety of tasty eats.
Freeport Bakery
Freeport Bakery is a full line scratch bakery. Along with our well-loved cakes, they bake a vast array of morning Danish, muffins, pies, cookies, and savory items. From a cup of hot coffee and a bear claw to a tray of delicious cookies for a gift, their knowledgeable and friendly staff will help you select the perfect treat.
In 1987, Walter and Marlene Goetzeler made the move to Sacramento to buy Freeport Bakery. It was a small but delightful bakery specializing in cakes. They inherited seven staff members. During the past 30 years, the Goetzelers and their amazingly dedicated staff grew the bakery into an award-winning neighborhood bakery. Now employing more than 60 employees, many long-term, Freeport Bakery has become a Sacramento institution.
