A fresh batch of encaustic painters finish introductory course

On August 5th Introduction to Encaustic Painting workshop participants took home knowledge, inspiration, and 2-3 small encaustic paintings. Painting with wax and fire may seem daunting but it’s not as complex as participants thought. This forgiving medium can be combined with many other mediums providing luminescent and ethereal results.

Workshop participants learned a brief history of encaustic arts; all about materials, surfaces, tool usage, safety, surface preparation, wax application and fusing, incising and texture, collage and transfer techniques; as well as resources for further learning. Primed wooden ‘canvases’ were provided along with wax, embellishments, brushes, and torches!
