“Business in the Black,” a Strong Productions documentary film chronicling the rise of black businesses in America from the 1800s to 1960s, will be shown at 7 p.m. March 6 in Curtis Hall.
Included are interviews with descendants of business owners, local historians and business owners. Highlighted are the names of black millionaires in the 1800s, accounts of slaves who bought their freedom and some who attended college, reports on what bigotry did to destroy black business districts, and interviews with people whose family owned a business in the early 1900s.
A reception starts at 6:30 p.m. with opening remarks about the history of black business in Sacramento and a question-and-answer session with the film’s producer, Anthony Brogdon. The film follows at 7 p.m.
