Taylor’s Market had no intention of expanding its successful gourmet operation until its owners received an offer they couldn’t refuse. According to market owner Danny Johnson, he and his wife and co-owner, Kathy, were approached two years ago by Vino Volo, an Oakland-based wine business that runs a wine bar at Sacramento International Airport.
That offer will turn Vino Volo’s wine bar into a restaurant featuring Taylor’s fresh produce, sandwiches and salads in Terminal A. Taylor’s will also offer prepared food and Taste of Sacramento baskets.
“Our target date to open is May 6,” Danny told the Viewpoint by phone. “For sure we’ll be in there by May 15.”
“We’re aiming to make it the Taste of Sacramento,” Danny said. All the products and prepared foods will come from this region. Kathy is making baskets of local products.
We’ll have grab-and-go sandwiches as well as fresh ones. We’re working on an individual pizza.” None of the market’s staff will be working at the airport venue. Instead, the market will train Vino Volo employees to staff the airport restaurant.
