May is Bike Month in Curtis Park

May is Bike Month is not about how far you ride or how fit you are; it’s about smiles before miles! SCNA is offering two ways to participate in May-is-Bike-Month.

May is Bike Month

Option 1: Join a Team

Check out Lovetoride.net/sacregion, register, and join the team “Curtis Parkians”. The Team is limited to ten members so don’t delay. Or start your own team! The aim is to get more people riding. Points are earned for:

  • each mile ridden,
  • each day ridden (10 points),
  • encouraging an existing rider (50 points), and
  • cajoling someone to start riding (100 points).

If you’re a new rider, you yourself earn DOUBLE points. The more points you have, the more chances you have to win bike socks and other cool stuff. Riding is on your own or with family, friends, or other Curtis Parkians.

Option 2: The Urban Bicycling and Scooting 101 Class

A classroom presentation, “Urban Bicycling and Scooting 101”, will be held on May 26th, 6:30 pm at Sierra 2 in Curtis Hall (more class sessions below). This entertaining presentation is put on by the City of Sacramento’s Bicycling Program and serves as an introduction to, or a refresher for riding in the streets, applicable laws, traveling through intersections, avoiding crashes, and enjoying the ride. The target audience is adults. The class has been held for residents in the Pocket, employees of Caltrans, and transportation planners—and finally in our neighborhood. You need not have a bicycle or scooter to attend.

The class is in-classroom. You do not need a bicycle or scooter. In the class, you will learn:

  • Bicycling/scooting and the law
  • Bicycling/scooting on the street
  • Traveling through intersections
  • Avoiding crashes
  • How to enjoy the ride

Classes are held monthly. After you have signed up, you’ll receive more class details such as classroom and materials to bring to class.
