Fall for these Classes in the Learnery

In the Learnery, we collaborate with local artists and instructors to host fun and interesting classes. Our fall schedule features art classes influenced by the changing season, lettering classes that introduce new skills (great for holiday menus, place cards, greeting cards, etc.), an educational gardening class that gives our local wildlife priority, and more!

There are many reasons to take classes and among them are:

  • Flexing the brain muscles in new ways
  • Discovering or rekindling passions and hobbies
  • Meeting new people, whether they be experts (like our kind, wonderful instructors) or fellow students
  • Educating yourself – being armed with skills and knowledge can help you tackle home projects, travel, or do your job better

This fall, we invite and encourage you to try one of our Learnery classes and discover the benefits of painting & calligraphy, foreign languages, social high teas, and nature.

Painting the Natural World

Our painting classes are often inspired by nature because painting trees, leaves, and florals come in gorgeous colors and interesting shapes. With our watercolor instructor Tonja Wilcox, you can arrange fall colored florals and foliage into artful wreaths on Saturday, November 9th.

There is also autumn trees acrylic class with instructor Lizzy Mailho. Lizzy loves to use palette knives to add texture and organic shapes to her painting. You’ll learn that and more in this class. These painting classes are $40 per person but we have a 10% discount right now with the code FALL10 applied at checkout online.

Writing with Flourishes

Modern calligraphy is trendy right now and it’s easy to see why. It looks romantic, stylish and timeless – perfect for weddings, greeting cards, signage, art, and holiday accents. We have two types of calligraphy classes on the schedule currently.

First, Phawnda Moore is teaching a Design and Brush Lettering class where students learn how to create letters with both a dual-ended pen and a large brush. For $67 for this class, you also get a take-home kit with pens and practice sheets.

Hillary Smazenko is the brainchild behind Hillary Alice Ink, who offers services like wedding envelope addressing in a stunning style. Hillary is hosting a Modern Pointed Pen calligraphy class in which students learn how to create elegant, fine-pointed letters with a nib and ink. This $50 class also includes a take-home kit.

Calling all Tea Lovers

Join The Novel Tea for their upcoming Harvest Tea on Sunday, November 3 from 1-3 in the Garden Room. The fees are $40 for adults and $15 for kids, aged 12 and under. This tea features 3-tiers of locally sourced and seasonally inspired tea foods and spiced teas. This tea also features a cooking demonstration featuring a tea-based brine and marinade. Tea lovers will want to incorporate this recipe into their Thanksgiving menus!

Master Gardeners are Back for Another Free Presentation

Learn about simple things you can do to create an enjoyable garden that invites, and provides a habitat for, wildlife like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, among other species. You’ll discover why it’s important, what you need, as well as why you might want to get your garden registered by the National Wildlife Federation as a “Certified Wildlife Habitat.” This class is free but we do ask that you register because seating is limited.

No Rest for the Spanish Students

Spanish, our longest running series in the Learnery, is back for its final sessions of 2019. The Conversational class is perfect for intermediate learners or speakers. We’ll have Beginning Spanish back on the calendar this January 2020 and interested parties can register for more information here.
