Local artist Heather Hogan invites you into her world of linocut and block printing with a fun Valentine’s themed workshop. Choose from a handful of pre-made stencils or draw your own design that you’ll carve onto a 4″x5″ block.
During this class you’ll:
- get a quick overview of designing art for printmaking
- learn how to transfer a design to a block
- discover simple carving techniques
- receive tips to print your block and what type of paper to use
Materials included in this workshop:
- Speedball linoleum cutting set with 6 cutter edges
- 2 (4×5) blocks — one for class & one for home
You’ll use these in class and take them home to continue your artistic endeavors.
Your block is the perfect size for Valentine’s cards. Send a personal touch to your loved ones during this Season of Love! Printmaking is a versatile medium – beginners can keep their designs simple or more advanced artists can add depth and texture to their work. This class is for everyone, age 13 and up.
About the Instructor:
Heather Hogan’s love of art solidified by 3rd grade with a first prize ribbon at the county fair for her masterpiece in glue and chalk – a macaw. Later, she earned a BA in studio art, new media (meaning digital arts) from CSU Chico. After a stint in San Diego animating for Starfall, trips to Europe, Thailand, and Burning Man, Heather settled in Sacramento. She teaches Web design, makes websites, and every day – with passion and love – makes art.
At present, Heather is the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator at Sierra 2 Center for the Arts & Community, teaches web design at Sacramento City College, takes on a few freelance web projects, and makes art on nights and weekends.
