Sip & Sew: Beginner’s Sewing Class
July 28 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm$50
A sewing class for tea drinkers and morning people!
Saturday, July 28th
10:00 a.m.– 1:00 p.m. in Room 12
Advanced registration required; space is limited.
Have you always wanted to sew, but aren’t sure where to start? This is the class for you. Dust off that sewing machine and make a tote bag!
In between sips of tea, you’ll learn how to:
- Thread your sewing machine.
- Cut fabric accurately.
- Sew straight and zigzag stitches.
- Understand seam allowances.
- Pin fabric together.
- Tackle sewing projects on your own!
You’ll leave with a sturdy, fashionable tote bag. Get a basic intro to sewing while gaining the confidence to go forth and sew all the things.
We’ll provide fabric and thread, but bring your own sewing machine and the instruction manual.
(If you’d like to buy a quality starter machine without laying down too much cash, I recommend Janome 2212.)
These supplies will be provided, but if you’d like to pick out your own fabric, please come with:
- 1/2 yard of cotton canvas
- 2 yards of 1-inch thick cotton twill tape or webbing
- Matching all-purpose polyester thread
About the instructor:
Rebecca Huval learned to sew at her favorite fabric store—Stonemountain & Daughter in Berkeley—and it’s taken over her life. Mostly, she makes dresses, dresses and more dresses. She also knits, embroiders, and writes. Follow her sewing exploits on Instagram @storytailorsews.
