Plant lovers, this is a class for you! In this workshop led by local artist & instructor Tonja Wilcox, you’ll learn about watercolors & practice a variety of painting techniques using houseplants as a subject matter. We encourage you to grab a few of your favorite succulents or houseplants to use a muses of your masterpieces. Plants offer wide array of color, texture, and natural shape to explore and play with! Come celebrate nature with us!

New! Add our Watercolor Supply Starter Kit to your registration for $15. The kit works for any of our watercolor workshops and supplies should last for a few additional practice & art-making sessions.

  • A round #6 brush
  • A few sheets of cold press watercolor paper

Note: our Supply Kit is currently only available for pick up at the Sierra 2 Center on a select day and time frame, in advance of the class. If you buy the kit, we will email you!

You’ll also need:

  • 2 water containers
  • Paper towels or a rag
  • Eraser
  • Pencil
  • Waterproof black ink pen (micron or fine tip sharpie) – optional
  • Small water spray bottle- optional

BYO Supplies:

Want to buy or use your own supplies? That’s great, too! Reference the above list for an idea of what you’ll need. You do not need to use the exact paint colors listed. It’s up to you, your budget, and your preferences. A paint set is a good starter option that offers a nice variety of colors. Use either paint from a tube or in pans. Important: if you purchase tube paints, Tonja recommends squeezing a little out onto your palette to let it harden or cure, prior to class. This is helpful for beginning painters.

It is also recommended that you pick up at least a round #6 watercolor brush — these are very versatile!

About the Instructor:

Tonja Wilcox has been a dedicated artist since 2010, although she’s been creating her whole life. She uses a variety of mediums including, graphite pencils, colored pencil, ink pens, markers, and acrylic paint but it is watercolor that speaks the loudest to her. It’s soothing and it suits her style.
