Porch Picnic Fundraiser

Back by popular demand – and out of financial necessity for SCNA – the Porch Picnic fundraiser returns Saturday, Oct. 2. This is your chance to enjoy a delicious dinner from one of Sacramento’s most popular restaurants. Meals will be delivered to you by a friendly SCNA volunteer for your dining pleasure on your front porch.

All eight of last year’s restaurants have been recruited again with a new addition – Canon, which will feature a special seasonally prepared meal just for Porch Picnic. Each restaurant sold out last year, so act fast to get the restaurant and menu you want.

This year’s array of restaurants, including Paragary’s, Pangaea, Hop Gardens, Revolution Café, Sampino’s, Taylor’s Kitchen, Urban Roots, Vallejo’s and Canon will offer special to-go dinners for two – or in some cases for four. Popular items last year included Paragary’s lasagne, Sampino’s short ribs, Taylor’s Kitchen family chicken dinner and Revolution’s vegan dinner. Here are this year’s menus:

Taylor’s Kitchen (serves 4)

Baked Pasta with house-made ragu, Reggiano Parmesan, garlic bread, mixed greens salad, and carrot cake for dessert
OR
Whole roasted Mary’s Organic Chicken with whipped potatoes and veggies, and carrot cake for dessert

Revolution Café: (serves 2)

1st Course: Black bean soup
2nd Course: Ropa Vieja – braised beef, bell peppers, olives, spiced tomato broth, cilantro rice (vegan option available)
Dessert: Mango creme puff
This menu can be fully vegan but not gluten free. Vegan option available instead of beef.

Paragary’s: (serves 2)

Oven-baked Lasagne
-Layers of house-made pasta with tomato sauce, ricotta, spinach, béchamel, Parmigiano Reggiano

Wood Grilled Boneless Half Chicken
-Panzanella, charred lemon-Castelvetrano olive salsa

All Meals include: Heirloom tomato and watermelon salad -Ricotta salata, red onion, mint, olive oil Roasted Broccolini -Currants, pine nuts, garlic, chile Sarah’s Polenta Cake -Roasted peaches, honey, whipped crème fraiche

Hop Garden (serves 4)

Two Boulevard pizzas Sicilian style (Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Fresh Fennel, Mozzarella, Garlic, Ricotta with Red Sauce) WITH Brussel sprouts, and a mixed greens salad

Two Vegetarian pizzas Sicilian style (Mozzarella, Mushrooms, Artichokes, Roasted Red Peppers, Red Onion, Olives with Marinara) WITH Garlic cheese bread, and a mixed greens salad

Urban Roots (serves 2)

Fall Seasonal Salad -mixed greens, pear vinaigrette, persimmon, pomegranate pecans and forage blanc
Smoked Brisket -served beef gravy, confit potatoes, glazed carrots

2nd course: Chicken or Mushroom Piccata – served with butter noodles, roasted zucchini, and a lemon caper butter sauce
3rd course: Molten Lava Cake – blueberry compote, whipped cream

Take the opportunity to try a different restaurant this year. Of if you took a meat option last year, consider something vegetarian this time. Gather together several neighbors on your street and enjoy dinner together on a front lawn or big porch.

While it was not possible to host the Curtis Park Wine Tasting event again this year due to Covid-19, the SCNA board wanted to offer an opportunity to gather with food in a friendly and socially distanced way. And because SCNA is not out of the financial woods just yet, one last fundraiser for the year is necessary.

All meals will come with a bottle of wine and a chance to win one of several prizes, including a case of wine, a case of beer, one night at the Doubletree Inn Sacramento, an autumn dinner for 6-8 in the backyard garden of Kathy Les and Hal Thomas, or a bottle of champagne.

Meal packages are $150 for two complete dinners (or four, depending on the restaurant). All meals will include three courses – a starter, entrée and dessert with meat and vegetarian options. Ordering and selections can be made via this webpage closer to the date of the event.

Crocker Village residents are welcome to join in the Porch Picnic fun. Meals will be delivered there as well.

Meal Delivery Boundaries

The Sierra Curtis Neighborhood Association is bounded on the east by Highway 99, on the north by X Street, on the west by the Union Pacific Railroad, and on the south by Sutterville Road.
