Join the Novel Tea for a wonderful combination tea tasting class and high tea event. Come on your own, or register with family and friends for an afternoon of education and eating!
In 2020 you deserve to find your perfect cup of tea. You can do that, and keep your resolution to treat yourself better, by joining the Novel Tea at our New Year New Tea class. The afternoon starts with tea tasting, where our certified tea sommelier will be presenting six wonderful teas, as well as providing a steeping demonstration. After that, we will serve traditional three-tier afternoon tea, with a wonderful menu of sweet and savory treats.
If you’ve never used loose leaf tea before, now is the perfect opportunity to learn, and if you’re an experienced tea drinker, come and taste some interesting and wonderful new varieties, all while enjoying high tea.
DIETARY RESTRICTIONS AND MENU SUBSTITUTIONS
Our tea menus are fixed and always include two vegetarian sandwiches. Unfortunately, we are unable to substitute items or offer gluten, dairy or egg-free options. Our food is prepared in a facility that uses wheat, nut, dairy, and eggs. If you have allergies, please note that on your registration, and we will annotate that event’s menu to indicate any items contain that ingredient.
However, our goal is to ensure every guest feels welcome and appreciated, so we will always provide to go boxes if you would like to take something you can’t eat home for someone else.
About the Instructor & The Novel Tea:
Ellen, Cid, and Emmy, owners of The Novel Tea, have been friends, family and professional colleagues for many years. Long ago best friends Ellen and Cid discovered that they both loved tea—both the drink in its infinite variations and the experience of connecting with others while having good conversations over a cup of tea. This is a passion Ellen and Cid passed on to their daughters, including Ellen’s daughter Emily who joined them when they opened The Novel Tea.
Ellen and Cid have over sixty years of teaching experience, and now instead of teaching communications or educational theory to college students, they plan to teach everyone in Sacramento how much better life can be with a book in one hand, a cup of tea in the other, and a friend by your side.
Ellen is the resident tea expert, and one of only a handful of certified tea sommeliers in California. Ellen is passionate and knowledgeable about everything related to the Camellia sinensis plant (from which all tea comes), has picked tea in China, and taken tea on almost every continent. As soon as Antarctica opens a tea shop, she’ll be one of the first customers.
