Hygge and Hand Printing – a Cozy Crafty Late Morning Gathering

Cozy into sweater weather and spark your creativity by gathering in the communal learning of the age-old craft of printmaking. Choose from warm and cozy designs like sweaters, mittens, Swedish horses, and mugs of steaming tea or bring your own mirror-image, black and white design at 4 x 5 inches to create your custom stamp.

Students will learn to trace a design, carve a stamp, roll up ink, and print on paper and fabric. Learn to carve, test print, print on paper, then scrap fabric, ultimately creating a custom drawstring bag and flower sack towel. Bring a shirt or scarf if you want to print on it during the class. We will roll up black fabric ink and use multiple permanent ink stamp pads.

Those new to Printmaking can learn the basics, while folks with some experience can aim to create more complex or two-part designs.

Heather Hogan is a Sacramento-based artist, designer, and adjunct professor at Sacramento City College in web design and modern making. Her passion for tools and technology has led her to incorporate digital design, stencils, printmaking, assemblage, and unconventional materials into her art practice, dubbed Tenacious Goods. A love of teaching inspires her to design workshops that share what she learns with others.
