September 16 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 12:30 pm on day Third of the month, repeating indefinitely
Head Space focuses on mental health wellness and well-being, and introduces lifestyle changes aimed at improving one’s mood.
12:30 – 2:00 p.m. in Room 12
Fees: See below
This monthly class offers a place for older adults to come together and discuss their own mental health struggles or concerns, ask questions, and hear from others who may have experienced the same things.
Each session of Head Space is individually designed and consists of pertinent information, relating topics to their influence on mental health. We aim to remove the stigma attached to mental health issues through open dialogue among peers. This is designed as a twelve-part series, so attendance is encouraged for all sessions, but not required.
Instructor Kate is our former Sacramento State intern-turned-graduate of the Gerontology program, who designed Head Space as part of her capstone graduation project. She will begin her MSW (Social Work Master’s program) at Sacramento State in this fall.
September 16th: Grief, Bereavement & Loss
An unfortunate inevitability of aging is loss, and grief and bereavement can be very difficult areas to navigate. It is important to have a safe place to talk about and grieve your loss, whether it be a person, pet, house, job, or hobby, it is necessary to emotionally process through these life events. Join our September class as we navigate through participant experiences, and get some tips on how our peers have worked through impossible losses. Instructor Kate will also provide some information on ways to help alleviate the weight that grief can carry. This class may be extended to next month if there is enough interest and attendance to class.
