Creative Tools Breakdown

This class compliments Cara’s Abstract Intuitive Painting Class and helps us gather the tools we need to let the creative process flow freely and openly. When we paint intuitively with acrylics, we step away from rigid plans or agendas, allowing ourselves to move with ease from one step to the next. We build our artwork in layers, embracing spontaneity and creative play. This open-hearted approach brings about rich variation and depth in our paintings, unlocking new possibilities with every stroke. However, it can sometimes feel intimidating to try something new on a canvas you’ve already started. That’s why this class introduces a “toolbox” of creative techniques you can explore and apply, empowering you to add fresh elements and textures to your work with confidence. Not only will these tools help enrich your paintings, but they’ll also make the creative process more fun and adventurous. Each class includes instruction, guidance, and time to experiment with different creative tools used in intuitive painting.

Aug 12 Techniques and tips for etching and scraping in your painting
Sept 9 Techniques and tips for adding collage to your painting
Oct 14 Techniques and tips for adding oil pastels to your paintings

Supplies
We will supply all participants with a 12×12 canvas. The featured creative tools will be
available to use during the class. Each artist should buy/bring your own acrylic paints &
brushes. Make sure you have white in addition to the other acrylic paint colors of choice.
We recommend paintbrushes in a few different sizes — medium to small– that are
meant for acrylic paint.
Buy a Supply Kit: You also have the option of purchasing our $25 supply kit which will
include a set of acrylic paints and a set of brushes. Add it to your registration and we’ll
have it for you in class.
