Dive into the creative world of alcohol-based artist markers, a beloved medium by many professional artists. Local artist & instructor Cara Gregor will present a crash course to using alcohol- based markers, demonstrating their benefits and many uses, including bold color, layering techniques, and blending.
In this class, you’ll be learning how to use these markers as you draw cute dogs, in a step-by-step format. Share your favorite dog breed with us when you register and it might be featured in the class!
This class is great for all-ages, beginner to intermediate artists, and those with little to no experience with alcohol based markers.
What are Alcohol Based Markers?
Unlike traditional, water-based markers, the color (dye or pigment) in alcohol markers are suspended in, well, alcohol or another solvent. They tend to be permanent, have a shorter drying time, and perform better than water-based markers. You can use these markers in a variety of artistic ways, including card-making, stamping, graffiti, and fine illustration. There can be a bit of a learning curve, as with most mediums, but once mastered, alcohol-based markers yield some pretty cool results.
Love for Cara’s Virtual Drawing Classes
“I liked how she broke it down into simple steps and details like the picture only had 3 colors, but the way she used them gave her flat image so much dimension. She made it feel like anyone can draw, you don’t have to have some amazing ability to do it.” – Online Drawing Student
We hope you add a little color to your days indoors with a Cara Gregor art class!
- Alcohol-Based Markers
- For this class, we recommend this 40-marker set by Ohuhu, which you can buy on Amazon for $19.99. This marker set offers a wide range of color options, has wonderful reviews and is affordable. Instructor Cara will be using this set in class as well.
- Pencil & Eraser
- Have these handy for sketching out dog designs before finalizing with ink & marker.
- Black Fine Tip Pen (recommended: Pigma Micron 01, 03, and/or 05) or Sharpies in fine and ultra-fine point
- You may want to use a black pen to outline your dog designs or add details. You could skip this and use one of your markers instead.
- Paper Options
- Pick up a few sheets or a pad of paper that’s heftier than computer paper, such as: cardstock, watercolor paper, bristol, sketchbook paper. They also make pads of paper specifically for markers.
You may be able to find these supplies on Amazon, Blick, or Michaels.
