The natural wood of the heavy craftsman front gate, enhanced by ornamental iron, is a precursor to the gardens and trees beyond, abundant with Sacramento camellias among rock planters with a patio and benches to enjoy. These gardens surround a stately Mediterranean home, its simple form punctuated by sculpted iron window boxes. Ample windows and doors fully integrate the outdoor and indoor experience.
This is the home Amy and David share with their Labrador Retrievers, Chloe and Boulder. The view of greenery outside prevails within through the windows and doors. Even the fireplace plays off a nature motif, with mingling flowers and leaves emerging from the original art tiles (since painted over by a previous owner). Built-in arched corner cupboards accentuate the dining room.
The sense of openness continues into the kitchen, with a classic traditional look amid white cabinetry and a farmhouse sink flanked by black marble countertops and complemented with a white marble subway tile backsplash.
The great outdoor space in back continues the thoughtful integration of nature with crafted garden features. The Rayboulds enlisted landscape designer Roberta Walker to create a concept around an existing contoured pool. Now a wedge shaped planter nestles at one edge of the pool, and a concrete patio with brick accents circulates among trees and planters. The new studio building at the back of the yard reflects and ties in with features that characterize the historic house.
