Historic Character
The 24th Street Theatre, located in the historic Curtis Park neighborhood
south of downtown Sacramento, is part of the Sierra 2 Center for
the Arts, now listed on the City of Sacramento Historic Register.
The interior architecture, including wood beams and chandeliers,
stage configuration and dressing rooms date to the original construction
of the auditorium in 1926.
Seating
The theater contains 291 fixed seats and space for five portable
or handicap seats. Raked and stadium seating allows for excellent
sight lines. Seats are numbered, allowing open or reserved seating.
Handicap Accessibility
The theater is handicap accessible from the front entrance at the
front of the Sierra 2 Center. Handicap restrooms are located nearby
in the main center.
Stage
The theater is equipped with an elevated stage, which measures roughly
30' x 30' and includes a proscenium, cyclorama, black velvet curtains
and a motorized projection screen. A small area at the base of the
stage can accommodate 8-10 musicians. A handicap elevator is available
for transport of wheelchair bound performers to the stage; it will
not handle oversized transport devices safely. A portable dance
floor surface is available with special installation instructions.
Lighting
The theatre is equipped with a 36 channel programmable DMX light
board. There are 36 dimmers rated at 2400 Watts each. In-conduit
DMX allows for integration of third party "intelligent"
lighting.
The theater is configured with a standard light plot divided into
3 upstage areas and 3 downstage areas - each 8 feet deep - giving
a uniformly lit 16 foot deep general performance area (25 feet wide).
The existing inventory of fixtures (instruments) includes 8 ETC
Source Four ellipsoidals (various degree spread), 51 Altman 360Q
ellipsoidals (6x9, 6x12 and 6x16), 25 6" Fresnels, 4 Berkey
Colortran 3-cell Far Cyc's, and 1 Altman 1000W follow spot.
The house lights are controlled from the lighting board in the
control booth with an override switch on stage left. The control
booth is located behind the audience above the lobby area.
Ladders and a hydraulic lift are available to qualifying technicians
for mounting and focusing lighting fixtures.
Sound
In the control booth the theatre's core sound system consists of
a Yamaha 16 channel* mixer, and 2 QSC amplifiers, and two flown
Peavey DTH series speakers. There is a CD player/Tape-deck combo
unit and an auxiliary input in the control booth for input (XLR)
of a third party playback device.
A breakout box on stage right allows for 8 microphones, 2 instrument
inputs, and 2 monitor outputs (line level). A renter must supply
their own monitors (powered).
*Note: Channels 9/10 control the in-booth AUX input level and channels
11/12 are the CD/Tape player level. Channels 13/14-15/16 are for
two optional wireless microphones which are available for rent.
Wired microphones, stands, cabling, and a portable PA system are
also available for rent.
Dressing Rooms
Two dressing rooms are located on stage R with access directly to
the stage. Both dressing rooms include sinks, mirrors and dressing
racks. Toilets are located down the hall from the dressing rooms.
No showers are available.
Additional space can be rented for open dressing rooms or a back
stage holding area.
The main hallway near the dressing rooms contains vending machines
with sodas, water and snacks.
Power Locations
Utility circuits of 115 V are located on stage L and stage R and
on the house left wall.
